Unity Unlimited, Inc. to host the 20th Lilian Bush Ecumenical Breakfast of Prayer

Fort Worth, Texas Jun 2, 2023 ( – WHAT: Today, the church is still a central part of the Juneteenth Celebration because worship is a grateful expression of freedom, and the first reaction when the prayers of many generations are answered. In remembrance of the first freed man’s church service, we established the Lillian Bush Memorial Twentieth Ecumenical Service, to honor the lives of all people no matter their race or denomination, who gave their lives for the cause of liberty. This service is a celebration of community, togetherness, and love for each other in support of freedom and education about our rights. We ask that everyone, no matter their denomination, come participate and support this all-faith service, and get the message of Juneteenth in the spirit of community from several faith-based leaders. Mark your calendars for June 2nd for a faith celebration for our latest Juneteenth celebration with Dr. Opal Lee and other faithful community leaders. We can’t wait to worship with you!

The programs they produce provide educational activities and resources to people to foster unity and harmony regardless of race, culture, or denomination including JuneteenthFTW a community festival that highlights the initiatives of the Grandmother of Juneteenth, Ms. Opal Lee whose mission is to support human dignity through education, culture, and opportunity. Other initiatives of the organization include Opal’s Farm to address food deserts in her community and Your Voice Unleashed a free week-long fine arts workshop for the youth to build bridges of unity.

Ms. Opal is the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation’s (NJOF) oldest living board member. The NJOF was founded and led by the late Dr. Ronald Myers, Sr., whose initiative helped 43 states establish Juneteenth days of observance. To raise awareness for the cause, she launched the Opal’s Walks 2 DC campaign in 2016, walking 2.5 miles to represent the 2.5 years it took for the Emancipation Proclamation to reach Texas and free the slaves.
