Wolfforth, TX – Fire & Ice Firewood (Fire & Ice), the local small business owned and run by Texas Tech University alumni and husband-and-wife duo Justin and Kaley Daniel, is celebrating its 16th Anniversary. The family business began selling wood in 2007 and, now being old enough to drive, has become a driving force in providing premium product and exceptional customer service in West Texas and a tri-state area.
Justin said the backstory is native to Lubbock – what began as an opportunity to help a local golf course has since grown into a commercial and residential business.
“Kaley and I used to play the back nine after work at Elm Grove golf course,” he said. “The course had a bunch of dead Elm trees so I offered to cut them down and haul off the wood thinking it would be nice for the family to enjoy over winter; after cutting down 22 trees and splitting the wood, I realized I had way more than we needed.”
That’s when Justin figured he might make some money by selling a few cords out of the back of his truck. After selling out and seeing the demand for firewood in a land with few trees, he began buying wood by the semi-load and having it delivered to their house. With demand building, their neighbors eventually got tired of semi-trucks driving down their alley so the couple moved the business to a dedicated location.
Kaley said the business has come a long way – from selling and delivering firewood in and around the Hub City to putting in the miles delivering wood across the state and beyond.
“We are proud to provide firewood to local families who enjoy the warmth in their home fireplaces or firing up their backyard BBQ grills and firepits,” she said, “and also to restaurants and convenience stores across Texas and in New Mexico.”
From firewood to cooking wood, Fire & Ice offers various wood types available for purchase in small to large quantities – from packaged bundles to multiple cords. Customers can save by picking up from the lot and have wood loaded for them, or they can book a delivery and receive free stacking and clean up.
With the growth seen over 16 years, the couple recently added a new kind of wood service to the business – Fire & Ice now provides fence construction, repair and staining (though the fences aren’t limited to wood).
