HPQ Silicon CEO Bernard Tourillon joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share news about the company's Fumed Silica Reactor development project. This project is being led by HPQ Silica Polvere, a wholly owned subsidiary of HPQ Silicon, in collaboration with technology provider PyroGenesis Canada.
Fumed silica is a microscopic white powder with a high surface area and low bulk density. It finds application in various industries, including personal care, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, adhesives, sealants, construction, batteries, gel, automotive, and more.
Tourillon revealed that the company has achieved a significant milestone in the Fumed Silica Reactor development project. HPQ Silica Polvere has successfully produced Fumed Silica material that exhibits structural characteristics similar to commercial-grade fumed silica. The material falls between grade Aerosil 150 and Aerosil 200 when compared under Transmission Electron Microscopy.
The company has generated nearly one kilogram of Fumed Silica powder, which will allow HPQ Polvere to send samples to interested third parties for testing.
Based on the testing data to date, using the proprietary Fumed Silica Reactor, HPQ Silica Polvere is confident that it will be able to produce high-purity Fumed Silica commercially at a cost of less than US$2.00 per kilogram. This cost is lower than conventional processes, making HPQ Silicon's approach highly competitive in the market. With the successful development of the Fumed Silica Reactor and the potential for cost-effective production, HPQ Silicon is poised to make a significant impact in the Fumed Silica industry, offering a competitive and environmentally friendly solution for various applications.
