NYC Local Moving For Family Homes, Packing Process Timeline Guide Released

A recent OnePoll survey revealed that 45% of Americans find moving to be the most stressful event in life – ahead of getting divorced, getting married, and having children. Movers.com believes that a lot of this stress comes from poor planning and organization. As such, its latest moving guide provides an easy-to-follow packing flowchart, along with tips to make the packing process less stressful.

Experts estimate that for a four-bedroom family house, homeowners will need around 100 boxes – and that number alone is sufficient to gauge the amount of time that will be needed to fully pack a family home. According to Movers.com, this means that homeowners should start packing one month before their move.

“Each move is different, and when you should begin packing is determined by how many belongings you have,” says Movers.com. “However, a good rule of thumb is to start about a month before your move (or as soon as you’re aware you’re moving), packing a little bit at a time.”

Movers.com appreciates that staying organized and on schedule is of utmost importance when moving with a family, especially with small children. As such, it argues that by starting one month before the move, homeowners will have plenty of time to properly sort through their belongings, declutter, and pack the home more efficiently.

To start, the guide suggests packing the rooms that are the least used first. For many families, this will be the dining room, while the kitchen and other essential parts of the house should be packed last.

When it comes to organization, the moving professionals recommend labeling the boxes clearly according to content and room, using a color coding system, sealing the bottoms with packing tape, and marking boxes with fragile items to avoid damage.

For those homeowners who are interested in hiring professional help, Movers.com can also provide up to seven estimates from local moving companies, at no cost.
