According to the report, gems certified by their organization pass rigorous testing standards before they are offered to customers. The gem’s provenance, weight, composition, and grade are carefully assessed so jewelers cannot “mark up” their gems to pass them off as higher quality ones to unsuspecting customers.
Less than 5% of jewelers have the AGS certification. After certification, jewelers must continue on to get their titles or designations like Certified Gemologist, Certified Gemologist Appraiser, and Independent Certified Gemologist Appraiser.
