RIT, education and professional training providers, have launched an updated version of their MicroMasters Program in Cybersecurity. The launch is one of the flagship offerings from their RITx collaboration with leading professional learning platform edX.

The newly updated course offers enrollees the opportunity to practice cybersecurity in real-world scenarios, providing invaluable, hands-on experience in the field to improve career prospects and build an expanded skillset in this growing sector.

Cybersecurity Ventures predicted there to be around 3.5 million unfilled jobs in the sector by this year, an increase of 1 million since 2014. As society’s reliance on digital services increases, the need for skilled cybersecurity professionals looks set to increase further in the coming years.

RITx’s MicroMasters Program in Cybersecurity teaches subscribers a comprehensive range of skills. These include setting up and securing basic computer systems and networks, digital forensics investigation techniques, risk management for information security, network intrusion detection and implementation of security solutions.

Each module lasts for 8 weeks with all 5 courses in the program taking 10 months to complete and requiring around 10 to 12 hours of study per week.

The MicroMasters programs are graduate-level courses from leading universities, designed to provide sector-specific career training for professional development. They offer a pathway to advanced degrees with credits counting towards a Master’s degree program with RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences.

Students must gain a certificate at the end of each module before passing the capstone assessment which concludes the program.

The capstone entails practical demonstration of skills acquired through the program, offering proof of verified learning to prospective employers with a range of in-demand cybersecurity competencies.

The RITx learning program reinforces the RIT commitment to accessible and reduced-cost education. The partnership with edX, a non-profit online learning platform founded by Harvard and MIT, offers a high-quality curriculum delivered by specialist instructors through advanced communications technology.

A spokesperson says, “MicroMasters program certificates showcase deep learning and in-demand skills to employers and can help you get started on a path toward completing an advanced degree.”

With the launch of their updated cybersecurity courses, RITx continues to make quality education and vocational training affordable and accessible for students everywhere.
