With the announcement of its new service, this center aims to give people a way to overcome debilitating mental and emotional challenges. They strive to remove the associated stigma through open sharing.

Christina H Chororos, the founder of the Kairos Center, focuses on teaching patients coping skills they can use in different situations and to manage a range of difficult emotions. This can also extend to problem-solving skills that can avert impulse-based reactions and harmful thinking patterns.

The Kairos Chronic Pain Coaching Center uses psychology and works in tandem with psychiatric treatment when required. The clinical director at the center, Maria Sikoutris-DiIorio, is a licensed professional counselor and marriage and family therapist. She holds a Post Master’s qualification in Education and a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy

The center fosters self-management of conditions through a keen focus on educating patients. Christina hosts frequent webinars on mental health, chronic pain, and other related topics.

According to Christina, the medical fraternity is yet to arrive at a consensus regarding coping categories. Therefore each practitioner follows a different model. She uses a combination of behavior, cognitive and holistic therapies. Her goal is for patients to put in the maximum work on their own to solve problems and minimize stress.

At the Kairos Center, Christina employs numerous coping strategies. This includes anger management, art therapy, cognitive restructuring, and many more. The sessions include education about the specific technique selected, mastering the technique with ‘homework assignments’, and discussions around the difficulties encountered while using the technique.

Christina is a chronic illness, mental health, and pain management coach, advocate, and writer. She has experienced 13 years of pain due to deep infiltrating endometriosis. She holds an Integrative Wellness Life Coaching Certification from the Integrative Wellness Academy in 2017, and a Graduate Certificate in Pain Management from the University of Connecticut (UCONN) in 2020. She writes for iPain Living Magazine, which is a quarterly magazine published by the International Pain Foundation.
